European River Sea Ships
EUROPEAN RIVER SEA SHIPS
Welcome
Construction continues!

The main picture for November depicts the Liberian flagged COPERNICUS passing Tofte in the Oslofjord on the 8th October 2009.

Photo Ron Halliday.

The vessel was originally built as a general cargo vessel and launched on the 21st November 1987 as the "Arklow Manor" by Peterswerft, Wewelsfleth, Germany, Yd. No. 634. The owners and managers were Arklow Shipping Ltd., Ireland. In 2000 the vessel became the "Copernicus" and was converted to a chemical tanker in May 2001 at the Stocznia Remontowa "Nauta" S.A. yard in Gdynia. Current owners are G Trans Shipping Ltd., and managers Seatrans DA, Paradis, Norway.

Dimensions of the vessel are 73.90m loa, 11.50m beam, with a maximum draught of 4.37m. GT 1525 NT 458 DWT 2181. Vessel has 6 tanks, capacity 1230m3. Power is by a MaK 6M332AK engine. Speed 10.5 knots.

River to sea and sea to river transport is not new, but over the past 30 years great advances have been made in the construction of this type of vessel by marine architects in the Netherlands, Germany, Russia and the Ukraine.

Vessels listed here are by Country, then shipyard, Project Number and Type.

The photo listed in that Shipyard is by:
Yard Number, IMO number, Ship name, and place photographed.
In the Comments section to the shipyard is:
Yd. No. Ship has a hydraulic wheelhouse mounted on a pillar. Current ship name. Year of build. Ex names and any additional details.
